3  Fungal Infections

4 Fungal work-up

Obtain the following fungal diagnostics:

  1. Serum Aspergillus Antigen (galactomannan)
  2. 1,3-Beta-D-Glucan (fungitell)
  3. Serum Cryptococcal Antigen
  4. Serum and Urine Histoplasma Antigen
  5. Fungal Blood Cultures
  • (1-3)-β-D-glucan (BDG), a component of fungal cell walls, has been shown to stimulate the immune system, enhance hematopoiesis, amplify killing of eosinophilic tumors, increase neutrophil chemotaxis and adhesion, and may be used in the diagnosis of invasive fungal infections (IFI)

  • Serum galactomannan (GM) testing is primarily used for the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis (IA)
