2  Diagnosis of APL

2.1 APL antibodies

• At MD Anderson, patients with a suspected diagnosis of APL undergo a rapid review of the peripheral smear by a hematopathologist for auer-rods/faggot cells APL-defining features and undergo a POD test (immunohistochemical test for detection of anti-promyelocytic antibodies) with a turnaround time (TAT) of 4-6 hours.
